Born in Portugal, currently residing in Toronto, and having lived in Africa for many years has largely influenced a multidisciplinary art practice with a particular focus on sustainability. Traditional techniques learned from her native homeland, along with her environmental concerns, have lead to Ana Cristina's interest and use of discarded metals to create sustainable and delicate works of art.

Working across different medium from painting, drawing, sculpture and textile, Ana Cristina composes artwork that exude a meditative quality.  Copper wire and aluminum are twisted and woven with similar delicacy and intricacy applied to paint and ink.

Combining traditional skills of her ancestral heritage and culture, Ana Cristina incorporates ideas of memory and experience to create contemporary works through the use of unconventional sustainable metals with a largely industrial application as a sculptural expressive medium.
